Workshops with returnees organized

Belgrade, 23/7/2008

Capacity building of returnees at one-day workshop took place in four municipalities: Zrenjanin, Knjazevac, Kikinda and Pozarevac. Representatives of the returnee’s population – informal or formal leaders and more active returnees, have been provided with knowledge about the reintegration processes, the rights and obligations of the returnee population, and the development processes in the local community. Participants were introduced to the advocacy techniques, roles of local institutions and ways of building cooperation with them.
We try especially to work with local returnees associations and their leaders in order to ensure their better cooperation in solving of returnees problem at local level.
In constructive discussion we analyzed problems of returnees in these municipalities. They have similar problem as majority of returnees regarding personal documents, health and social protection, education, employment. One of the biggest problems is employability of returnees. Biggest number of returnees in Knjazevac is situated in Milicevo one small village. Nobody from that village doesn’t have permanent job. It is enormous problems for village and whole municipality. Also lack of basic infrastructure makes sanitary problems. In this municipality biggest number of returnees is coming from Germany. Mr Zoran Panjkovic explains them why they have been returned to Serbia and what kind of support they can expect from Republic Serbia. Almost similar situation is in Kikinda. Biggest number of returnees is situated in Mokrin small village 30 km/h from Kikinda.
We have analyzed at this workshops that almost all returnees have similar problems: 7
- unresolved economic and material status
- they don't have social network which could help them
- they have traumatic experiences
- they frequently have specific needs due to psychological reasons (confused, angry, frightened)
Conclusion - It's very important to adequately take care of returnees and help their reintegration, and to do everything that's possible to provide them adequate work engagement.
Archival of specified social goals is demanding job that requires adequate approach, financial recourses and professional and organized assistance to returnees and institutions.
